According to foreign media reports, Volkswagen Group executive Oliver Schmidt will be judged on Thursday on suspicion of violating US emissions regulations. However, he revealed to the judge that he had been cheated by the company's management personnel two years ago.

Schmidt has been in prison since he was arrested in January, and he also pleaded guilty on August 4 to conspiring to violate the United States Clean Air Act. As planned, he will accept the US District Judge Sean Cox's ruling in the Federal Court of Detroit, and will face seven years in jail.

In a letter submitted to judges last week, Schmidt, who served as the head of VW’s US environment and engineering, said that for the first time, he knew that the company’s cheating in emissions testing was in the summer of 2015. Schmidt said that on August 5, 2015, when he met with California environmental protection official Alberto Ayala, he received a document that required compliance from public managers and high-level lawyers.

Schmidt: "I regret to agree to comply with the contents of the document. It seems that I shouldn't meet Dr. Ayala at the time, or that I should have met, but I should ignore the instructions and acknowledge that there are cheating software in Volkswagen diesel vehicles. And it's been 10 years."

The German "Bild" reported that Schmidt revealed to the judge that he felt "used" by the public. He wrote that I must say that I feel that I was used by my own company during the emissions incident or the diesel incident. Volkswagen spokesperson Nicolai Laude declined to comment.
