Petrochemical Industry Discusses Scientific Development of Coal Chemicals

From October 23 to October 24, the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association reached a consensus on the high-level coal chemical development strategy forum held in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia. The “Three West†areas (ie, Shanxi, Shaanxi, and Inner Mongolia) are the focus of coal chemical industry development. In terms of resource allocation, it is necessary to ensure that the coal used in coal chemical industry does not compete with the power generation, civil use, etc. in accordance with the current status of China's coal resources and the current level of technology. In terms of development priorities, we should standardize the development of high energy-consuming products such as calcium carbide and coke, steadily develop new types of coal chemical products for the methanol system, scientifically develop the coal-to-oil industry, and encourage the development of coal-based polygeneration. In terms of technology selection, it is necessary to adopt the most advanced technologies in the world today and patented technologies and industrialization results developed by China that have independent intellectual property rights. In addition, new projects must meet the necessary conditions for production water, transportation, and environmental capacity.
Ni Weidou, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a professor at Tsinghua University, pointed out that China should regard the development of coal-dominated polygeneration systems as a strategic direction for coping with energy challenges, as long as China’s coal, chemical, and power industries break the boundaries of the industry and cooperate Within five years, it is possible to establish a large-scale demonstration multi-unit production facility, which will be widely promoted around 2020.
