According to the local official's briefing, the accident was caused by the failure of the compressor in the Jiangshan Agrochemical Chlor-alkali Branch Plant. The automatic system of the device system caused an urgent chain shutdown and caused a small amount of chlorine to leak. Of the 26 people who were sent to the hospital that night, there were actually 26 symptoms of discomfort. The hospital had observed stable vital signs. At about 9:30 that evening, emergency tests at the Nantong City Environmental Monitoring Center showed that there was no chlorine in the air in the accident area.
