According to the Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Mazda and Toyota realized cross-shareholding a month ago and announced plans to jointly build a plant in the United States to jointly develop electric vehicles. Today, the two companies plan to share a core system that controls car navigation, music, video and smartphone connectivity.
It is reported that the shortage of software developers in the Japanese automotive industry has contributed to the cooperation between Mazda and Toyota. Toyota will be responsible for the development of this intelligent software that supports the open source Linux operating system, and then introduce Mazda to further optimize. However, although the system will be completed in cooperation, both parties will develop different versions with their own characteristics and applications.
The Toyota 2018 Camry will be the first car to be equipped with this core system. The report pointed out that Toyota plans to become the standard configuration for all cars sold in the US, Japan and China by 2020. At the same time, Mazda is expected to introduce new models with fuel economy improvements of 20%-30% between the end of 2018 and the beginning of 2019.
