BorgWarner's 10 millionth pressure sensing glow plug (PSG) for diesel engines has been successfully launched. This intelligent cold start solution integrates high efficiency glow plugs with integrated pressure sensors to help automakers enhance engine efficiency and performance while meeting current and future emissions regulations. BorgWarner's PSG is the first in its class to achieve mass production and has won numerous awards including the Automechanika (AMS) Innovation Award from the Frankfurt Auto Show and the PACE Award from the American Automotive News Network.

BorgWarner's PSG combines a durable steel heating rod with a pressure sensor that only shines at the top. The integrated sensor effectively regulates the combustion process within the closed loop system. The integrated sensor reports data to the engine control unit (ECU) to adjust the fuel injection amount and timing for each cylinder in real time. In addition, with its rugged mechanical design, the PSG resists extreme temperatures, severe vibrations and extreme pressure conditions inside the cylinder head. With these advanced designs, automakers are able to achieve higher peak pressures in smaller engines, bring the combustion process closer to its limits, and ensure stable emissions control to meet current and future environmental regulations.
