Opel spokesperson: General Motors will retain at least ten years of Opel brand

According to a report recently by Bloomberg, Opel officials stated that General Motors will continue to retain its Opel brand for at least ten years. The statement confirmed the same statement of September 5, 2011 GM executives.

During the visit of Volker Bouffier, governor of Hesse, Opel, Germany, to the United States, Robert Ferguson, vice president of global communications at General Motors, told GM that GM would not sell the Opel brand within the next few years. Subsequently, Opel spokesman Stefan Weinmann confirmed the claim to the largest newspaper in Europe, the German "Bild Zeitung", claiming that at least in the next ten years, GM will continue to retain ownership of Opel Motors.

Stefan Weinmann also affirmed the view of Opel CEO Karl-Friedrich Stracke, emphasizing that Opel will not enter the Brazilian market. Weinmann said: "The strategy in the Brazilian market is very clear: General Motors's Chevrolet-branded vehicles can only be sold. This situation has lasted for decades."
